Digital Floral Painting with colored pencil
I really enjoy photographing flowers, especially the gorgeous bouquets at our local Whole Foods Market.
From time to time I take my favorite floral photos and work with them in a combination of apps on the iphone, ipad &/or mac computer.
Recently I created a set of floral stationary cards for a sweet friend’s birthday gift. In addition to whole foods bouquets, the set I created for her included images from photographs I had taken of some of her beautiful flower arrangements.
As I started to print them out on my home printer, I realized some of the inks were running low and the blacks were very washed out.
Since the inks for my printer are expensive I did not want to throw away the initial misprint cards, so I saved them to ‘fix’ later.
‘Later’ came, and I used prismacolor pencils to color in the blacks & other parts of the prints that needed fixing.
Additionally & unfortunately, my hand slipped when trimming the cards from the press sheet, so I had to consider an additional ‘fix’ which was to break out my old deckle edge scissors. I also used colored pencil on the cut deckled edges. Since each of these cards will go to different people (not as a set), it didn’t matter that there were trimming inconsistencies one card to another.
There were 6 of these misprinted cards, and in the end I was glad I had saved them & was pleased with how they turned out. I’m sending them all out as thank you cards this weekend.
Creating cards was my first-art-love as far back as I can remember. It is what long-time friends & family talk most about, regarding my art and their fondest memories of it, many of them saying “I save them all!”.
I would like to spend some time on creating more, like these, either as individual cards or sets. Do you have suggestions or preferences? If so, please let me know. I’d love to hear!
